Guided tours

 

Meeting and starting point of the hikes is always Grossschönau plaza. The route includes restaurants and inns. Meals are on a self-pay basis. Tours 4, 8, and 10 include shuttle transfers or a ride with the narrow-gauge train. Rides are on a self-pay basis.

 

Tour 1
The historical trail of local traditional houses...
.. including a Waltersdorf specialty: the numerous sandstone doorframes from 1725 to 1908.The hike takes place in a unique landscape of homes featuring well-preserved traditional buildings with outstanding sandstone doorframes. Tour guide Christine Goldberg-Holz provides a special opportunity to look inside her own traditional home. Participants can expect to climb down into the 3-part barrel-vault cellar. After a bite at noon in the 'Sonnebergbaude', the hike goes on past the stone quarries at the Sonneberg to the 'Niederkretscham', where an architectural peculiarity awaits the visitor.

Tour 2
Panoramic tour on the pass
Artefacts from centuries past around Waltersdorfer Pass
This hike leads over meadow and forest trails with splendid views of the resort of Waltersdorf, south-eastern Oberlausitz, and the Czech portion of the mountain range, the Lausitzer Gebirge. Hiking guide Klaus Stich provides information and interesting details about the history of the Lausitzer mountains. The hike peaks at the summit of the Lausche, Germany's highest mountain east of the Elbe.

Tour 3
Children's hike: 'Schnitzeljagd' with Trixi
Who doesn't know Trixi? Trixi, the big walrus from the holiday park of the same name, invites you on a wild goose chase from the plaza to the campfire area at the Trixi park. Trixi is waiting there with excitement so that you can tell all about your tour while you enjoy a tasty snack around the campfire. After saying goodbye to Trixi and arriving back at the plaza in Grossschönau, you can expect all kinds of fun and games, and maybe you'll even see Trixi there again...

Tour 4
Along the Oberlausitzer Bergweg
The Oberlausitzer Bergweg is a 118 km long mountain hiking trail that leads through the Oberlausitzer mountain region and the Zittauer Gebirge park. The route is identical to the eastern part of Fernwanderweg E3 from Zittau to Wernigerode. Hiking guide Johannes Johne guides hikers along a section of the mountain path including the 'Hexentreppe', the Nonnenfelsen and the Scharfenstein - the views of the landscape are spectacular!

Return trip from Oybin, Hain area with the Gebirgsexpress: 2:35 p.m. (arrive 3:00 p.m.) or 4:05 p.m. (arrive 4:30 p.m.) to Trixi Park Grossschönau (self-pay basis)

Tour 5
Sports and wellness ??? What else could your heart desire!Nordic walking - Kneipp tour
This tour offers great views of the Waltersdorf portion of the Zittauer Gebirge park and of the local traditional building style. Participants can expect an invigorating Kneipp water therapy to actively enhance the body's immune system. Hikers also have the option to enjoy a fitness drink in a shady spot at the Quirle-Häusl.

Tour 6
Grossschönau's Wild West...
This tour has a carnival atmosphere and is led by the GFC...
Put on yours jeans, your cowboy hat, and up the mountain we go! The Hutberg! That's where the Grossschönauer Faschingsclub's (GFC) fort is located, which will take you on a very special kind of tour: carnival in the spring! Get ready for humorous skits in the Wild West program and plenty of surprises...

Tour 7
Textile village of Grossschönau
...experience a historically industrial culture up close!
Grossschönau is a community that is over 343 years old that features a unique textiles-oriented past. The damask and towelling weaving industry got its start in Germany here. Come along with us on the trail of pattern artists, manufacturers, and weavers, and get to know how Grossschönau became what it is today.

Tour 8
Full-steam into the mountains
A must for any romantic railway fan... The Zittau narrow-gauge rail has cast a spell over visitors from near and far for over 120 years. Enjoy a trip through the nature park to the museum station at Bertsdorf, where you can take in the authentic atmosphere of the narrow-gauge rail station that still remains. A trip with the train takes you up to Jonsdorf, the resort in the Zittauer Gebirge park that features an unmistakable cliff landscape. The return trip leads along the Strümpfeweg, which is definitely an interesting route.

Tour 9
Frontier summit tour
...a high flight along the Kammweg.
This hike leads from Grossschönau to the Weberberg, which is the third highest mountain in the Zittauer Gebirge park at 711 m. Along the Kammweg, which runs directly along the German-Czech border, you will pass by the two Lausche springs and the Czech and German sides as you climb this rugged path up to the summit of the Lausche. Hikers are rewarded with a broad view of the mountain landscape of northern Bohemia and the mountains of Oberlausitz up until Saxon Switzerland.

Tour 10
Imposing cliff tour
???includes a cross-border heath hike
A shuttle takes you from the plaza in Grossschönau to Jonsdorf resort. The tour leads along the Falkenstein, a remarkable climbing wall, into the Bohemian village of Nieder-Lichtenwalde to the restored Lauschehochmoor, which displays an especially unique landscape in the spring. Along the Hohlsteinweg, over the Nonnenfelsen (which was once a sandstone reef), and back to Grossschönau.

Transfer from Grossschönau plaza to Jonsdorf with the Gebirgsexpress: 8:45 a.m. (self-pay basis)

Tour 11
From the Dreiecker to the Tanneberg
This is a demanding tour with a long climb up to the Tanneberg. The tour takes place mainly within the Czech Republic. The hike leads across Grossschönau's district of Herrenwalde towards Dolní Podluzi in the direction of Tanneberg. The viewing tower at the Tanneberg offers an imposing panorama of the Lausitzer mountains. The Georgenthal provides an opportunity to rest, which is a traditional pilgrimage and mining area.

Family hike: With the dwarves to Karasek the robber baron
There once were dwarves who preferred to eat bread without honey, and that's why they would spy on people's houses - the 'Querxe' dwarves from the myths of Lausitz. But just who is this robber baron Karasek? That's something you'll learn more about during the exciting Karasek cave tour...

Tour 13
Barefoot tour
Let's get those feet moving!
People were born to go barefoot. Anyone who has gone barefoot before knows what the body is capable of without shoes. Feel what it's like to sense the ground with your bare feet again. The paths selected will take you across various surfaces: grass, sand, soil, and completely natural forest and field trails.

Tour 14
Off to the Mühlsteinbruch!
The Mühlsteinbruch area is completely unique in Europe. Around 1560, a surveyor from Jonsdorfer discovered this sandstone, which is especially useful for millstones. For over 350 years, this sandstone was cut for millstones. The millstones were sent as far off as Russia and England. Join us for an exciting travel back in time!

30. Grossschönauer Frühlingswanderung (spring hike)
Grossschönauer spring hike has become steadily popular over the years. This traditional hike has been organised since 1980 by the hiking department of TSV Grossschönau e.V. and the community of Grossschönau and its tourist information centre. Originally intended for hiking fans from the Grossschönau community association, more and more enthusiasts joined from Zittauer Gebirge area, and now fans have sprung up around Saxony thanks to support from the Sächs. Wander- und Bergsportverband e.V.!

Hikers get to know the beauties of our mountains and the foothills on their own along exciting routes.

The marked routes have lengths of 14, 20, 24, 32, and 38 km. They lead to the foothills of the Zittauer Gebirge area, sometimes along the Oberlausitzer Bergweg, the Grossen Stein, the idyllic town of Hainewalde on the Mandau river, and over Breiteberg mountain. Every hiker can arrange their route and destination however they like.
